Senior Learning Centre

At Kalianna, our Senior Learning Community consists of Year 10 and our Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) group. The students in our section range in age from 15 to 18 years and are involved in a range of academic, social, specialist and extra-curricular programs which are targeted to assist them in becoming independent young people.

Supporting a broad range of student needs and abilities, the Learning Centre for Senior Years at maintains a focus on developing a repertoire of skills that contribute to independence, social competence and quality of life.

The programs that are available to students in the Senior Learning Community are:

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Physical Education

  • Art

  • Vocational Education & Training Programs in Hospitality, Community Volunteering, Automotive and Employment Pathways

  • Values & Life Education

  • Camps / Excursion

  • Specialised Programs including swimming, farming & fitness

The Senior Learning Community actively contributes to our school student representative committee and provides student leadership.

The VCAL program (Victorian Curriculum of Applied Learning) is conducted over two years for our Year 11 and 12’s.

This program prepares students for further education, training or employment by providing them with work-related experience, literacy and numeracy skills and an opportunity to develop personal skills. It’s a hands on and engaging program that we run at the Foundation Level.

We have a strong sense of community engagement and relish the chance for students to become involved with the Bendigo community, participating in events like:

  • Bendigo Food Share

  • Ls to P’s Vic Roads driving course

  • Bendigo Community Health

  • Bendigo Farmers Market

  • Salvation Army food relief

All students are required to undertake VET and currently we offer a traineeship in Certificate II in Food processing and also a Certificate II in Active volunteering.
