Eligibility and Criteria
Kalianna School welcome enrolments for students who have an intellectual disability diagnosis and have a Full Scale IQ in the range of 50-69.
Prep enquiries open in Term 3 each year. It is advised that you talk with your child’s kindergarten teacher before making enrolment enquiries to seek their opinion if your student may have an actual intellectual disability and not another diagnosis e.g. autsim spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). You will also require evidence showing that you have been engaged with early intervention and other allied health services.
If students are transferring from a catholic or private education system they will require a current cognitive assessment and a special school verification process to be validated before an enrolment can proceed. Contact Lara Pearce, Assistant Principal for more details.
All students enrolled at Kalianna will require a Disability Inclusion Profile to be completed which secures funding for your student at school. This funding then enables the school to make all necessary adjustments required to ensure your student receives the best education.
All students at Kalianna will require a review. If a student commences enrolment at Prep this review may not be required until their Year 6/7 review or if they are short term funded it will be when their current funding ceases. This is arranged by the school and involves having a new cognitive assessment to be completed which ensures the student still meets eligibility.
