Middles Learning Centre

At Kalianna School we have four middle learning community classrooms spreading across Years 7, 8 & 9. The students in our section range in age from 12 to 16 years and are involved in a range of academic, social, specialist and extra-curricular programs which is targeted to assist them in becoming independent young people.

The students have access to Victorian Curriculum, however the educational pathway of each student is specifically tailored through consultation with students’ parents at Student Support Group meetings and the development of an Individual Education Plan. The students are supported through extensive resourcing, smaller class sizes, education support staff in each classroom and specialised staff including a speech pathologist, student wellbeing and careers coordinators.

As well, there are weekly sessions in VaLE (Values and Life Education), Art, Physical Education, with opportunities to access to targeted reading intervention groups and work experience. Students in each year level in the middles have access to school camps and excursions which give access to a wide array of experiences for students each year.

Our middles students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential, to become as independent as possible in a caring, positive &  supportive environment.   In the Middle Years, students are prepared in the later years of their schooling, Year 10, VCAL and post school options.
